Glacier Cockpit – A Cutting-Edge Cooling System Debuts with Sam Laidlow and Patrick Lange at IRONMAN Kona

At Kona, elite athletes Sam Laidlow and Patrick Lange will debut a new Canyon cockpit on their Speedmax TT bikes, featuring an advanced cooling system developed in collaboration with Ergon and Ultra Cool Tech. The iconic 180km bike leg, which runs along the Queen K to Hawi, challenges even the best athletes, and both Laidlow, the reigning IRONMAN World Champion, and two-time Kona winner Lange will push their limits with this cutting-edge technology.

While optimising aerodynamics is crucial, managing heat also plays a vital role in maintaining power and pace before transitioning to the marathon run. The new Canyon cockpit integrates multiple technologies for superior cooling and heat dissipation, helping Laidlow and Lange keep their performance sharp in Kona’s extreme conditions.

The cooling solutions are so seamlessly integrated that you might not even notice them—but Laidlow and Lange certainly will. One visual cue is the metallic finish applied to the cockpit, which could catch your eye if you’re following the event live or through photos in triathlon media.

Additionally, both athletes will be using Glacier Tape to wrap their grips. Many competitors at the IRONMAN World Championships have chosen this cooling bar tape for their time trial bikes (available in our online store and top bike shops).
